While arriving at four in the morning sounds awkward, it does seem to be a good way to get over jet lag quickly. After about four hours of sleep we were feeling much better and ready to start the day.

For breakfast, we had puris (a type of puffed fry bread) with lentil and potatoes. Breakfast is at about the same time as dinner at home so we were quite hungry. The puris are flaky and crunchy, strong enough to use to scoop up the lentils without breaking. It is a filling savory breakfast. After a morning of unpacking, we had prawn curry with red rice for lunch.

The food is cooked by Jayama, the maid who comes each morning to cook and clean for Mervin’s dad. She is an excellent cook and it is such a pleasure to have home cooked meals. While the restaurant food here is wonderful it is also very rich. It’s good to balance it out with healthier food.

After a short nap in the afternoon we met a couple of friends for dinner at the restaurant a couple of blocks away. While I missed getting a picture of the food, I did get a picture of the cute cat that was sleeping behind our table.

We made it to 10:30 before going to bed! An excellent start in the fight to overcome jet lag.
