The flight to Dubai was smooth though long – about 14 hours total. Our route took us north over Canada, the North Pole, and then south across Russia and Iran.<\/p>\n
We had a window and middle seat in a row of three. Next to us was a very friendly woman from Namibia who works as a Physician’s Assistant in Spokane. I passed the time reading, watching movies, and sleeping. I was definitely tired because I fell asleep in the middle of Emperor’s New Groove! The vegetarian meals were all excellent though they definitely did have some spice to them! Dinner seemed like lentils, and breakfast was a mix of rice with peas and tomato sauce.<\/p>\n

We landed in Dubai right on time. The sun was setting as we came in, and I was able to catch a glimpse of it on the walkway from the plane to the airport, red and hazy low in the sky.<\/p>\n
We couldn’t see much of Dubai proper as we came in, because we flew in over the suburbs. It was clearly rush hour though! Traffic was stopped dead on the freeways. It is a very hazy evening, so we could only barely make out the sky scrapers in the distance.<\/p>\n
The part of the airport we’re in is a long straight hall, shopping in the middle with gates off to the side. It’s a lot like some of the Asian airports I’ve been in, except that it is much taller, and least three stories up and more below.<\/p>\n
I didn’t get any pictures because the part of the airport we are in has a lot of construction so it’s hard to see what it’s supposed to look like. Hopefully I can get some on the return trip!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
